How to Separate Variegated African Violet Sucker

February 13, 2025 0 Comments

Variegated African Violets are beautiful houseplants that have been part of my life since 2020. For the past five years, they’ve brought me so much joy—not only by brightening my home but also by helping me cope with stress. They’re more than just plants; they’ve become part of my daily routine, and to my surprise, they’ve even opened up small earning opportunities along the way.

One of the varieties in my collection is Le Zhana. For a long time, I didn’t notice any suckers (baby plants that grow from the base of the main plant) forming on it. But recently, I spotted tiny leaves growing in all directions, and the plant temporarily stopped blooming. After observing it for three to five months, I realized those little leaves were actually suckers, slowly crowding the mother plant and affecting its shape and growth.

In the video I uploaded to YouTube, I showed how I carefully removed the suckers to help the mother plant recover and thrive again. This process not only gives the main plant room to grow and bloom, but it also gives us the chance to propagate new plants from those suckers.

Instead of throwing the suckers away, it’s best to pot them in their own containers. Keep in mind though, propagation doesn’t always guarantee success. Some suckers may not survive despite our efforts—but with proper care and a bit of patience, others will grow into beautiful, healthy plants.

This time, I managed to separate five suckers and three detached leaves from the mother plant. I’ve already planted them in new pots, and now I’m excited to wait and see which ones will thrive in the coming days and months.

Unboxing Variegated African Violet

August 03, 2022 0 Comments

African Violet is one of my favorite houseplants but due to have less space, I just have one African Violet. While searching online, I found a post concerning Variegated African Violet. I got so excited and hoping to have this type o plants in my collection. However, the online shopping is in Florida and the cost of shipping is more expensive. so, I decided to just let it go.

I still continue searching if I will find somewhere here in Canada and yes I found the Facebook page just for Variegated African Violet. If I remember exactly my first order was on May. I made a video while unboxing but was deleted accidentally.

In the above video was my second order that was on August as my personal gift for myself. I was so excited receiving my Variegated African Violet and I make sure I don't delete them yet some of the chips were deleted.

The leaf cuttings I received on this order and in my first order were all rotten. Totally doesn't know how to propagate the leaf cuttings. The rest of the babies, they are thriving!!!

I will make an update about Variegated African Violet soon.

Monstera Standleyana Albo

August 01, 2022 0 Comments

Monstera Standleyana Albo is one of the rare and expensive plant I have in my collection. The pot is worth $799.99 plus tax which comes to $920. When I picked up this plant at the nursery it was not in a good shape, most of the vines were broken and leaves were so dehydrated. I had to cut the vines and soaked them in water and now they're growing nice and strong.

Monstera Standleyana Albo is another type of Monstera plant. The looks of the leaves shows white splashes and some are half moons meaning half green and half white. This plant is very attractive and considered rare plants in the area where I live.

This Monstera was originated from the countries namely; Panama, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. This time it is widely imported to every corners of the world I guess. This plant is really in demand and people will buy even one single leaf is cost so much money. I supposed to buy one last October but I changed my mind. The price was $85 for one leaf and unrooted. The price is crazy right? Is it really worth it? The answer is depends on every individual. For me, it is worth it if you feel satisying and comfortable.

I bought Monstera Standleyana Albo in the middle of November and she grows beautifully as well as the cuttings and its also ready to sell.

Taking care of Monstera Standleyana Albo is not difficult, I treat this plant the same as the other Philodendron, Pothos and Scindapsus plants.

Variegated African Violet

May 30, 2022 0 Comments

Variegated African Violet is also called as Saintpaulia. This type of plant is one of my collections. I adored Variegated African Violet very long time however, this type of African Violet is hard to find in Canada.

There are so many regular African Violet in most of the stores around where I live but I had purchased only one plant despite that I love their flowers. I still have this plant since 2013 until now and it blooms every year.

Variegated African Violet first blooms

I remember, been searching Variegated African Violet in the internet but most of them were found in the US. In the year 2020 around May, I found a Facebook page of selling various types of African Violet. I jumped into joy because at last I can purchased the plant on my wish lists. I purchased 4 leaves cuttings and 4 babies unfortunately, the leaves rot. Then I bought another five different variegated African Violet where four of them survived but the leaves were rotten after 4 to 5 days. Then, here's the third purchased just around Montreal area, I bought three plants.

As you can see in my video those are my surviving Variegated African Violets. I tried leaf propagation some successful but the others failed however, I still tried.

This lonely bloom just recently from one of my Variegated African Violet I purchased online

Why I became obsessed of Variegated African Violet? well, simply because I'm plant crazy when it comes to variegated plants I guessed. No, the mean reason is that, they makes me happy, I forgot most of my worries when looking at them, the plants relieve my stress. I admit, to have a plants at home are additional chores but having these makes me worry free of what to do next, I just do what I love to do.

According to the website named Karen Hugg, that this variegated African Violet had been around since late 1950. Wow, that very long and I only noticed this type of African Violet in the year 2016 while browsing online for unusual variegated plants. The fuzzy and white-speckled white some are pink are such so pretty to my eyes. Yet this variegated one is a bit tricky to take care of than the regular one.

For caring my variegated African Violet still I'm not so sure if I did the right way however, I have to check them everyday as I observed they do not like their soil to be dried out. I made a wick to self water them however some seem doesn't work.

Most of my variegated African Violet are in my living room under the artificial lights. So far, I see that they are happy as they gave me flowers most of the time.

I watered them almost everyday for those in a tiny pot trying to avoid the leaves however, that is really hard to do. Every time, I water my plants not just the African Violet there's always water splashed all over.
