Hoya cv Viola

August 08, 2022 0 Comments

Hoya cv Viola is a trailing plant. It has fascinating lustrous leaves and produces sweet scented flowers. Hoya Viola is produced of combining two Hoyas such as; Hoya Deykeae and Hoya Vitelina.

Like other Hoyas, Hoya Viola blooms from spurs. I did not see the actual flowers yet however, soon. I just hope that Viola will like under my care. By the way, Hoya Viola is my newest Hoya plant.

According to my research, Viola loves bright but indirect light. At this time, I put her on direct grow light like other Hoyas I have in my collection. So far, the plant stayed with her original soil. I see that the soil has well draining mix in it thus I have to water her every three days and check often to make sure that she will not be dried for so long.

Hoya Viola may have yellowing leaves, like other Hoyas, yellowing leaves is a sign of too much water. If it happens try to change the soil or mix it with other medium such as; perlite, coco-husk, vermiculite etc. that can help so that the soil will not be compacted and will drain smoothly and dry quickly.

Even though, I just brought the plant a week ago, I already propagate, this is just to make sure in case something happen to the plant.

So far the cuttings are placed on the water, I will update soon as roots are started to come out.

Hoya Odorata

August 03, 2022 0 Comments

Hoya Odorata is one of my newest Hoya in my collection. She came from Thailand, so basically this hoya is still stress from travelling but this hoya is doing fine. I received 55 Hoya plants dated August 18, 2021, this Hoya Odorata is one of them.

Hoya Odorata is came from Apocynaceae family. It really surprised me that this hoya is came from my native country the Philippines. Honestly, I did not see this plant in my hometown probably in the other province.

This hoya has tough leaves or shall we say rigid leaves when we touch, they said it is very easy to grow. Let see, though. Most Hoyas they said are easy to grow but in reality it really depends on the plants if they like to grow or not, I feel that they are like human beings sometimes hard headed, hahaha.

Since hoya odorata is new to me, I did not see the actual flower but according to my research this hoya have fragrant flowers like most Hoyas.

Taking care of Hoya odorata will be based also on the other hoyas the way I care them. Will update soon as it blooms.

Hoya Rebecca

August 01, 2022 0 Comments

Hoya Rebecca is another species of Hoya family and it is said to be native from the Philippines while other site claimed that this Hoya originates in Thailand.

Hoya Rebecca produces beautiful scented flower that grows in cluster on the long vines. I love the leaves of this Hoya because the new leaves formed into a delicate white and pinkish leaves where we absolutely enjoys the plant even though we don't see any flowers on it. Then, we even love the Hoya Rebecca when it's bloom.

Propagation " the breeding of specimens of a plant by root cuttings" obtained from the Dictionary - Oxford Languages

Like other plants, Hoya Rebecca is very easy to propagate. The plant picture at the top is my latest propagation. I am using the water method as it is the simplest way of propagating Hoya. There are several ways of propagation such as:
  1. stem cuttings + water propagation
  2. air layering - according to some people and experts that this method is 99.9% successful but I really did not try it.
  3. stem cuttings + direct soil propagation
  4. leaf cuttings - I personally not recommend this method. Although, I tried this method and it showed roots successfully but its very impossible to make a new plant.
Propagating a new plant is already considered a hobby to me not just to make a new plant but I am hoping to grow a healthy new plant so I can sell them to other people that loves Hoya.

How To Take Care Hoya Rebecca?

Hoya Rebecca doesn't like direct full sun, she does well in partial sun or in shade. However, you can put her under the artificial grow lights like mine they are placed under the grow lights and they are growing beautifully and produced flowers several times.

For the soil, I found this a bit tricky or maybe it is just me. From an expert advice, the soil must be moist at all times but not soggy. However, like any other plants I always let them dry before watering. It seems that this way works for me than leave the soil wet all the time. I wasted many plants by doing so as most of them gone through root rot.

Is Hoya Rebecca needs sunlight?

Hoya Rebecca of course needs light, it is always ideal for the plants to have enough sunlight to grow. This Hoya loves partial indirect sunlight, however, this plant also can survive under artificial lights such that as grow lights if grown inside the house.

Hoya Rebecca in bloom, this was the 2nd time.

HOYA BELLA VARIEGATED

April 30, 2021 0 Comments

Hoya Bella variegated has tiny pointy leaves with yellowish color inside and green on the outside of the leaves or edges. This hoya is truly a beauty. I read a lot of articles about this type of Hoya and they said it is very easy to care for, however in my case I have a hard time making it healthy. I bought my first Bella regular, Albo, and variegated at the same time yet after months they slowly died on me.

At first, I have no idea why they just eventually die. When there were only 2 stems left, I need to investigate the reason, I thought that it was unhealthy because of the bugs but sadly the Bellas have no roots at all. If I only knew, I will maybe transfer them to water to roots then replant like what I did to this new botanical gem of mine. She is just three months and looks at the growth, she seems happy and hoping she will stay healthy.

However, as I noticed the variegation of the new stems is reverted to green. Now, I am thinking to cut the green part or maybe I should just let it be until she will become a fully grown plant.

By the way, sorry there is no voice on this video, will soon have a voice next time. hahaha just a little bit shy, English is not my first language.

Thank you for your time, if you would like to make a comment or add some info, please do so. I will be happy and thankful for your efforts.

Have a great day.

Hoya Kerrii (Heart Leaf)

VALENTINE HOYA – Hoya kerrii 75mm | Weslor Flowers Plant Nursery

This is my lovely Hoya Kerrii or Hoya Hearts, this is a tropical plant but considered also a succulent plant. Most of this plant was being sold during Valentine's Day and in one single leaf cuttings. Hoya plants or varieties will produce flowers. I did not see the flowers of the Hoya Kerrii but I am hoping soon.

When I got this Hoya Kerrii two years ago, she had five leaves and stemmy. It wasn’t beautiful to look at. So, I made cuttings and I did three cuttings. After a few months, roots coming out and transferred to the soil. I posted on Marketplace and sold them out. I had to cut twice and sold. Yes, I already make money out of this mother plant. They said, they are slow growers, but in my opinion, it really depends on how the plants react because mine, over the years, it grows quadruple, that I had to cut twice.

This year, she’s on rest. I don’t have a plan to cut her lolz!!! It’s her rest year.

Hoya Ciliata the fastest Growing hoya

April 15, 2021 0 Comments

Hoya Ciliata is one of my first Hoya collections. The plant in the video is a 2 years old Hoya Ciliata, however, I already cut or propagate several times.

Of all my Hoya Collections, Ciliata is the number one fast grower hoya. I can put this hoya anywhere in the house with no fuss at all. The plant grows beautifully yet I did not see her blooms. In the main time, I kept this Hoya in my window kitchen where she can get filtered full sunlight.

Hoya Ciliata likes sunlight and well-drained mixed soil. Just beware of keeping the soil dry for long, the plant will not like it. Hahaha, nobody likes dry even human being, so to make this Hoya happy water it when the soil is dry when you touch.

Hoya Meliflua

April 15, 2021 0 Comments

Hoya Meliflua has rigid leaves that don’t show any vines. According to Wikipedia, this Hoya comes from my own country, the Philippines. The site says, the plant is common to Apayao, La Union, Rizal, Bataan, Laguna, Mindoro, Palawan, Negros, Panay and Leyte.

I did not see the actual flowers yet since mine is still a baby but hoping to blooms soon. According to Wikipedia that the flowers are reddish-orange and have nectaries near the base.

The name of the Meliflua is derived from the word “Mellis” which means honeydew and the word “Flou” meaning is flow. these two words combined were created due to the dark nectar that stains the flowers and it’s flowered every June.

Hoya Meliflua is another species of hoya that is easy to care but I was just wondering why it’s hard for this plant to branch. As you can see in the video, it just growing into a long single vine. I decided to cut with hope that he will branch somehow.

As an update, it is about two months now since I cut my hoya Meliflua however there is no indication of a new branch.

HOYA AUSTRALIS LISA

April 14, 2021 0 Comments

Hoya Australis Lisa is one of my favorite Hoya even I did not see her flower yet. Just the leaves itself is stunningly beautiful. When I got this plant was really really small with a 2.5″ nursery pot for the price of $35. I thought it was insane of buying plants for this price. However, looking at this hoya right now makes me feel happy.

What I observed from Hoya Australis Lisa is that she always wants attention and in constant care, unlike other hoyas. I bought this hoya along with the other varieties and they were the same size, I found Australis Lisa grow faster than the others. People said, this type of hoya is a slow grower however, in my opinion, it really depends on how the plants react to their environment. Compare to my other Hoyas, Australis Lisa grows faster and I already transferred her to a bigger size pot 5″ from 2.5″, so in my case, it really varies.

According to my research, this plant belongs to the Apocynaceae family. This hoya is also called a wax plant and porcelain flower. It was first collected in 1770 as a houseplant by Europeans. Australian Native Plants Society said that there are more than 200 species of Hoya.

How to care for Hoya Australis Lisa

Hoya Australis Lisa for me is easy hoya to take care and I love her, she is one of kind even though, I always look or check after her every day, I feel so happy, it makes me happy and of course Australis Lisa plant in my house helps purify the inside.

SOIL

Well draining and aerated soil is a must for our Australis Lisa to grow and thrive. For my own, I always mix my soil with perlite. Honestly, I don’t measure the soil and the perlite, I just mixed them and use my own judgment. So far, the result is good. What the most important for me is, it drained properly and have enough air for the circulations of the root.

Most of us, of course including me have tended to overwater, this is so true and still, until now I overwater them lolz… so what I do, is to check the soil if it is dry or not. You can also buy a soil temperature checker from Dollarstore for $4 plus tax or any other store that has gardening stuff.

WATERING

I water my Australis Lisa once every 2 weeks. Even though, I see her soil so dry after a week of watering. Since, this plant is also considered succulent, therefore, the leaves stored water so they can tolerate the dryness.

I monitor most of the time with just my fingers by touching the soil and by my own judgment. But of course, if you like to check them properly and without doubting yourself, you can buy a checker in the dollar store or any store that has gardening supplies.

LIGHT

Light, oh talking about light, most Hoyas I have loved direct sunlight, which is far from what I searched online that beware of direct sunlight. I tried my Hoyas especially Australis Lisa but she is not happy. She lost several leaves and she did not grow an inch. I transferred on the windowsill where she will receive full direct afternoon sun and she loves it.

I will not recommend and suggest anything because I am not an expert on anything. I am just a newbie experimenter and I learned through it. What I do is observe the plants in one spot for at least a week to a month and if you feel that the plant is struggling or not happy move them to a new spot.

FERTILIZER

I fertilized all my plants not just Hoyas with an all-purpose fertilizer. However, just recently I tried to use an orchid fertilizer, the mister one for my Hoyas. At this moment, I cannot tell if it really works or if my Hoyas will love it, I don’t know yet.

That’s it for now, thanks!

Hoya Multiflora

April 14, 2021 0 Comments

This is the second bloom of Hoya Multiflora or Shooting Star

This is my Hoya Multiflora or shall we called a Shooting star. This Hoya I got from Kim’s Nature in Markham, Ontario. Yes. my family and I drove to Markham. Ontario for a long drive after a long month COVID lockdown. Anyhow, this is one of my dream hoyas since I started to collect them.

According to the Encyclopedia of Succulents, the origin and habitat of hoya multiflora or shooting star are from the forest of the following countries Burma to Thailand, China, Malaysia, Java, Indonesia, and the Philippines. This hoya was being described in 1823.

This Hoya is compact, upright, and shrubby. I observed this hoya that it doesn’t produce branches. What I really like about this plant is its flowers. It has arrow-shaped petals that bend like a shooting star. When she starts to flowers it produces so many flowers, that’s why they called this plant multiflora because of that feature.

When I got this Hoya, it was June 2020. I cannot remember exactly the date. It has two peduncles then after a week, it adds another in the total of 6 peduncles. I've waited for weeks before they really opened it into full bloom and yes it lasted for about 12 days.
